A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

It is indeed a pleasure to present to you our community's oldest and most representative organization. The American Club of Madrid has been a great success. For more than 54 years we have provided a forum for enhancing the business interests and good relations between the United States, Spain and other countries.

To that end, besides our monthly business luncheons and cocktail evenings, we provide many other social and leisure activities that will not only allow us to maintain the traditional events for the ex-patriat community, but also enable Americans and non-Americans from around the world to become acquainted with each other's cultures and values.

We celebrate the 4th of July with a picnic and the usual hoopla of American independence. Thanksgiving attracts many to the traditional dinner, and the Christmas party is always a good time and fun.

We gather together as a club because we are proud to be, or be associated with Americans. This is the bond which holds us together.

In addition, we provide an opportunity for people to get involved in community events and have a good time doing it. Truly, there is no greater reward than the personal satisfaction of working on a team and getting a job well done.

Thank you, fellow members, for the enthusiasm and support that keeps this club an exciting trend setter in the community. I must say that I certainly enjoy being part of one of the most dynamic clubs in town!

Best regards,

Julio Vidal

President

AMERICAN CLUB MISSION STATEMENT

The American Club of Madrid is a not-for-profit organization of local business executives and professionals, both active and retired, whose primary mission is to create and carry out a program for its members which will be both interesting and rewarding to them, and at the same time enhance the good relations which exist between our host nation and the United States.

In support of this, we are committed to the following :

  • Foster a climate within the Club and its U.S., Spanish and other nationality members that will not only enhance goodwill among the members themselves but also will capitalize on this goodwill to produce a strong and effective multinational voice -- under one banner -- in support of the most cordial relations between the United States, as represented by the Club, and our host Spanish nation;

  • Broaden the knowledge, information and contacts of our members by providing a program steeped in areas such as Spanish-American business, current events, sports, community affairs, social and cultural activities, etc;

  • Bring prestige to the Club through the quality of its membership, outstanding speakers and programs;

  • Provide a program of activities for members which is in harmony with the overall business focus of the Club and will benefit the members in their own individual business and personal relationships here in Spain;

  • Provide a collective voice through which the attitudes and viewpoints of members who are US citizens abroad are reflected and transmitted to our government; in essence, through continuing contacts, cooperation and dialogue with our Ambassador and his staff;

  • Assume a leading role in representing the overall American community to its host nation with the collaboration and support of the US diplomatic mission, business sector and national institutions.
