ACM Spring Hike

Sunday, May 11, 2025

The details are here!

We will be heading to the mountains for an easy (but not flat) hike this May! This trip will take us to Cercedilla, where we'll do a loop near the Dehesas, through beautiful woods and meadows, up to the Cerro del Reajo Alto for nice views of the region. This hike is about 8 km (5 mi) for the loop, and does have some elevation gain of about 250 m (850 ft), so it is an easy level for those with a moderate level of fitness, but may be tougher for our youngest members or those not used to walking too far. Kids 7 and up are welcome to join. Dogs are also welcome if they are up for the walk!

We'll make a whatsapp group for last minute coordination - please be sure to include your mobile number when you register. Please e-mail us if you don't have Whatsapp.

How we'll get there:

  • We will meet at the Chamartín Cercanías station at 9 am to grab the 9:14am train to Cercedilla, or feel free to board the same train from a different stop. Round trip ticket price should be €6-10 depending on which station you board from (free with abono joven).
  • If you are traveling with a dog, they are welcome on Cercanías but must travel with a muzzle.
  • If you prefer to drive, you can meet us at the Cercanías station in Cercedilla at around 10:30 am (the train is scheduled to arrive at 10:21am).
  • Estimated hiking time including stops for lunch and photos is approximately 3-4 hours.
  • We hope to catch the 15:30 train back to Madrid depending on our hiking speed, and be back in Madrid by 16:30h (estimated). If we have time after the hike, we may stop for a drink on a terrace in Cercedilla before heading back.

Technical details:

  • Round trip distance of about 8km (5 miles) and ascent/descent of about 250m (850 ft). There are some uphill areas, with very few steep parts.
  • Some flat, wide dirt paths, some single track paths, and some rocky areas.

What to bring:

  • 1-2 L water
  • Sandwich for lunch and any additional snacks or drinks you might like
  • Comfortable clothes, trail shoes or hiking boots
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Insurance is not included. It's possible to arrange individually or we are happy to direct you to a provider of "seguro de aventuras" for the day.
